How Bicarbonate Of Soda Therapy Works
Bicarbonate of soda, also known as baking soda, is a white crystalline solid that appears as a fine powder and can be purchased in your local grocery store for only about £1.00 or $1.40. In addition to it being used to reduce the toxic effects of chemotherapy and radiation, bicarbonate of soda is used in alternative medicine to alkalise the body to fight cancer. Dr. Tullio Simoncini’s aluminium-free Bicarbonate of Soda therapy creates an alkaline cellular environment which kills overgrowths of the cancer-causing fungus, Candida Albicans (a common member of the human gut flora) and then reverts them to normal cells. He claims that his Bicarbonate of Soda therapy is particularly effective at treating cancers of the digestive tract such as the mouth, throat, stomach, intestines, colon and rectum. For these cancers, a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate in the morning and one in the evening can be added to a glass of water over a period of a month, after which, according to Dr. Simoncini, the therapy can be discontinued as it should have been effective within this period. However, for best results on cancers outside of the digestive tract, a health practitioner must deliver injections of sodium bicarbonate as close to the tumour as possible since its pH-raising effect is needed in the micro-environment of the tumour.
Dr. Jim Kelmun modified this protocol by advocating that people should take bicarbonate of soda with maple syrup. It appears paradoxical to add such a sweet product as maple syrup to the baking soda since sugar feeds candida which, in turn, feeds cancer. However, when sugar is combined with bicarbonate of soda, it acts differently because as soon as the sugar opens the cells, the baking soda enters and destroys the cancer cells. In Dr. Kelmun’s protocol, he suggests mixing one part of baking soda with three parts of maple syrup, heating and mixing it over a very low heat for 10 minutes and taking three teaspoons a day for 1-2 months.
My Experience With Bicarbonate Of Soda Therapy
I discovered the Bicarbonate of Soda protocol after my lymph node surgery in February 2016 and so was unable to have it injected near to the tumour as per Dr. Simonceli’s recommendation … though I doubt whether I’d have been able to find a medical practitioner who’d have been able to do it for me anyway in Qatar! As my cancer was also not within the gastro-intestinal tract, I didn’t start taking it in order to fight those cancers of the mouth, throat, stomach, intestines, colon or rectum either. I simply started ingesting the bicarbonate to create an alkaline body state and so help prevent cancer recurrence. I take it one month on and one month off to give my body a bit of a rest. When I don’t take it, I increase my consumption of highly alkalising vegetables like spinach, brussel sprouts and broccoli, and fruits like lemons, pineapple and mango. However, when I do ingest it, I take a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda mixed with a teaspoon of honey as the carrier agent in the evening just before I go to bed. I must say that, for me, bicarbonate of soda mixed with runny honey or maple syrup tastes disgusting so I make sure that my mixture is almost solid and swallow it straight down with a bit of lemon juice so I don’t have to taste it! However, when I wake up in the morning, my urine is always alkaline i.e. 7.5 to 8.0. This is unusual because morning urine is normally acidic because you don’t eat while you’re asleep. My wife, Yasmin, who hasn’t had cancer and so doesn’t take sodium bicarbonate, tests her urine against mine first thing in the morning before breakfast and regularly records a level of 6.0-6.5, while mine is 1.5 higher on the 1-14 pH scale.
However, you do need to be careful about excessive intake of bicarbonate of soda which can cause hypertension, metabolic alkalosis (i.e. where tissue pH is elevated above the normal range of 7.35-7.45), congestive heart failure, seizures, muscle spasms and contractions, high sodium levels in the body (hypernatremia), and swelling in the feet, ankles and lower legs. So, if you do start the Bicarbonate of Soda therapy, you should monitor your body pH regularly with testing strips and also be sensitive to any of these outward symptoms of excessive intake. As with any alternative treatment, you should research it, check with your doctor before starting it and stop using it if you have an adverse reaction.
Is There Evidence On The Anti-Cancer Effects Of Bicarbonate Of Soda Therapy?
Firstly, there is much anecdotal evidence that Dr. Simoncini recounts from amongst the patients that he has treated, and you can watch a video in which he explains his therapy and successes with patients in the sidebar. There are also other survivor stories from people like Vernon Johnston, author of ‘Vernon’s Dance With Cancer: After The Jolt’. In 2008, a Prostate-Specific-Antigen (PSA) blood test revealed an extremely high PSA level of 22.3, and the biopsy which followed confirmed Stage IV aggressive prostate cancer. The resulting bone scan and pelvic CAT scan also showed that the cancer had spread to his bones. After being told there was nothing that conventional treatment could do for him, Vernon researched pH-raising protocols on the internet and came across both cesium chloride and bicarbonate of soda therapies. As the cesium chloride had got lost in the mail, Vernon started taking bicarbonate of soda orally with molasses as the carrier agent on June 2nd 2008 and ended it just 11 days later on June 12th, the day before his next bone scan. When the report arrived in the post a few days later, it read “NO CONVINCING EVIDENCE OF AN OSSEOUS METASTATIC PROCESS.” Two days later, his PSA score was returned as 0.1 … down from 22.3! It is interesting to note that Vernon healed his prostate and bone cancer with sodium bicarbonate but that they were not gastro-intestinal cancers nor was sodium bicarbonate injected into or around the tumour. The implication is that bicarbonate of soda therapy might have a wider role to play in treating cancer than even Dr. Simonceli advocates. There haven’t been any clinical studies of any impact that bicarbonate of soda might have on cancer treatment. This might be because sodium bicarbonate is derived from natural minerals, nahcolite and trona, which come out of the ground, are refined into soda ash (calcium carbonate) and then refined further into sodium bicarbonate. As natural substances cannot be patented, there is no incentive for the big pharmaceutical companies to fund expensive research into them especially as it might show that such compounds are effective in the treatment of cancer which would result in a massive loss of revenue from sales of their own cancer drugs and treatments. However, experiments conducted on mice at the Arizona Cancer Centre in Tucson United States, entitled ‘Bicarbonate Increases Tumour PH And Inhibits Spontaneous Metastases‘, showed that when sodium bicarbonate (chemical compound NaHCO3) was given orally to mice ‘… NaHCO3 selectively increased the pH of tumors and reduced the formation of spontaneous metastases in mouse models of metastatic breast cancer.
There are two other well-known therapies which are designed to alkalise the body’s pH (i.e. push it above 7.0) by buffering the acidic micro-environment of cancerous tumours with an alkalising compound in order to starve them of glucose. The Cancer Tutor website explains how Dr. Aubrey Keith Brewer’s Cesium Chloride protocol works to combat cancer. ‘Cesium Chloride is a natural mineral with the ability to penetrate the cancer cell and rapidly change its acidic pH to an alkaline pH of about 8. This destroys the enzyme systems of the cancer cell and does not allow it to reproduce or survive’. This protocol tends to be the one recommended by alternative health professionals for cancer patients with advanced forms of their disease and the Cancer Tutor website provides recommended dosages based upon the patient’s medical condition before or after they have undergone debilitating conventional treatment. Another pH-raising therapy is the Cellect-Budwig protocol with its five key features, but I’ll talk about both this and the cesium chloride protocol in more detail in later posts.
What Happens In The Body To Cause Cancer?
A cancerous tumour develops when there is rapid cellular growth and an increased rate of cellular metabolism where the cancer cells, instead of using oxygen for respiration as healthy cells do, start to use a lot more carbohydrates and sugars in order to generate energy. Lactic Acid and Pyruvic Acid are two compounds in particular which are formed from this energy production, and although they are normally cleared and utilised quickly in a healthy body, they build up around the tumour, creating an acidic environment. This problem is compounded because the lactic acid produced by this fermentation of glucose travels via the bloodstream to the liver where it is then converted back into glucose which is then greedily taken up by the cancer cells as they consume around 15 times more glucose than normal oxygen-respirating cells. This lactic acid cycle, known as cachexia, increases acidity still further which destroys the ability of DNA (DeoxyribonNucleic Acid) and RNA (RiboNucleic Acid) to control cell division so the cancer cells multiply unchecked. Dr. Otto Warburg won the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1931 by discovering that cancer cells are characterised by low oxygen because they generate energy mainly by anaerobic breakdown of glucose (i.e. fermentation of sugar). In the words of Dr. Warburg, ‘Cancer, above all other diseases, has countless secondary causes. But, even for cancer, there is only one prime cause. Summarized in a few words, the prime cause of cancer is the replacement of the respiration of oxygen in normal body cells by a fermentation of sugar. All normal body cells meet their energy needs by respiration of oxygen, whereas cancer cells meet their energy needs in great part by fermentation’.
Therefore, some cancer experts like Dr. Tullio Simoncini with his Bicarbonate of Soda therapy which creates an alkaline cellular environment to kill overgrowths of the cancer-causing fungus, Candida Albicans, and Dr. Aubrey Keith Brewer with his Cesium Chloride protocol which buffers the tumour micro-environment with an alkalising compound, the pH of tumours can be raised enough to starve them, stop their growth and, ultimately, kill them.
